Information for new Forest Friends

What should I do, as a parent/carer, in a Forest Friends session?

First and foremost, we want you and your children to have fun in the woodlands!

Here are a few guidelines:

  • Forest Friends is child-led so stand back and allow your children to choose the activities and explore the area. We let the children follow their own interest and plan activities around them. There are lots of opportunities for your children to play freely within the boundaries of the site

.

  • Encourage your children to stay within the session’s boundaries during free-play time.

  • Always listen to the trained leader and encourage your children to follow the instructions. This is especially important around the campfire or when using tools.

  • Closely supervise your child when near the campfire, climbing or using tools.

  • Do not allow your child to put anything they find in their mouths. Foraged food should only be eaten after it has been checked by the leader and as part of a planned activity.

  • Your child can have a ‘wild wee’ if they cannot make it to the toilets. Please find a space far away from the group and take any rubbish home with you.
